“Covered Customers” shall mean the life insured under any individual or group life insurance policies issued in Hong Kong by Zurich Assurance Ltd (a company incorporated in England and Wales with limited liability), Zurich Life Insurance Company Ltd (a company incorporated in Switzerland with limited liability) or Zurich International Life Limited (a company incorporated in the Isle of Man with limited liability) (collectively as “Zurich”). To be entitled to the COVID-19 Benefits, the life insured must be diagnosed with COVID-19 and confined in a Hospital, and the relevant policy must be in force during the Coverage Period and at the date of claim. If the life insured is covered under more than one individual or group life insurance policy with Zurich, the COVID-19 Benefits shall only be payable once for each life insured.
COVID-19 shall have the meaning assigned to it by the World Health Organization. The confirmed case of COVID-19 shall be proven by a relevant confirmatory report issued by a Hospital in Hong Kong or other countries. Clinical diagnosis alone will not be sufficient. No benefit will be payable if COVID-19 was diagnosed or any signs or symptoms were present before the policy application date or policy issue date (whichever is earlier).
Quarantine shall mean the compulsory quarantine in Hospital or isolation center for observation in Hong Kong as required by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in relation to COVID-19. No benefit will be payable if the Quarantine is imposed before the policy application date or policy issue date (whichever is earlier).
Mandatory Quarantine Cash Benefit shall only be payable once for each life insured, regardless of the number of Family Members subject to Quarantine.
Family Member(s) shall mean the people residing with the Covered Customers in the same dwelling in Hong Kong. Zurich reserves the right to obtain a proof of address when assessing a claim.
For individual life insurance policies issued in Hong Kong by Zurich on or after January 23, 2020, COVID-19 Benefits shall not be payable if the Covered Customer is diagnosed with COVID-19 or any signs or symptoms are present within 14 days from the policy application date or policy issue date (whichever is the later).
“Hospital” means a legally constituted establishment operating pursuant to the laws of the country in which it is based and which: a. holds a licence as a hospital (if licensing is required in the state or governmental jurisdiction); b. operates primarily for the reception, care and treatment of sick, ailing or injured persons as inpatients; c. has twenty-four (24) hours nursing services by registered nurses; d. has at least one (1) Doctor in residence available at all times; e. provides organized facilities for diagnosis and major surgical facilities; and f. does not include, a rest or convalescent home, hospice, nursing home, or similar establishment or a place for alcoholics or drug addicts or for any similar purpose.
If the Covered Customer is diagnosed with COVID-19 in Mainland China, Hospital only includes a hospital that is designated and accepted by Zurich.
This Scheme will be terminated immediately once the aggregate claims for COVID-19 Benefits reaches the sum of HKD 20,000,000 which Zurich has reserved against COVID-19. Zurich shall have the right to amend the terms and conditions herein from time to time or terminate the Scheme (whether in whole or in part) at any time without prior notice. In case of disputes, we reserve the right of final decision.
